Friday afternoon, February 6th, Triton School locked down after a report about 1:30pm of a man in Dodge Center with a rifle. Dodge County sheriff deputies were called to a residence in Dodge Center after receiving a call that a man was intoxicated, armed and threatening to shoot others and himself. The person in question was identified as Michael Majerus, 46 years old, and the caller who was also a room mate had multiple firearms in the residence.

When Dodge County deputies arrived they found the suspect outside, leaning against the front of a vehicle with a rifle. After verbal contact, the suspect who was agitated refused to step away from the firearm. He then picked the rifle up and walked around in front of the residence making comments to the deputies that he wanted them to shoot him.

The Triton school was placed on lockdown at 1:35pm, as the residence on the 200 block of 3rd Street, Dodge Center was less than a mile from the school building. The Minnesota State patrol officers and Kasson Police department assisted in establishing a perimeter around the property where the gunman was.

Less than 30 minutes after the deputies arrived, the suspect re-entered the residence where his two adult sons were waiting. Several minutes later one of the sons exited the building and informed the officers that the other son had tackled his father and was holding him down. Law officers entered the residence and took the suspect into custody and he was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for evaluation before being transferred to the Olmsted County detention Center pending charges.
