Triton Activities Works to Reflect Profile of a Graduate

Posted

The mission of the Triton High School Activities Department is to provide students and staff opportunities to develop the core values identified in the Profile of a Graduate for Triton Public Schools.

The Triton Profile of a Graduate is our locally developed approach to defining what it means to be a graduate of Triton High School. There are eight principles and competencies that have been identified that will help all students develop the skills necessary for success in a career, college, but most importantly in life.

A clear visualization of priority goals for teaching and learning is communicated to students, parents, and staff to align collective efforts to develop the characteristics outlined in the Profile of a Graduate. The Triton Activities Department has set out to incorporate the Profile of a Graduate into the fabric of our extracurricular programs. Each coach and advisor has been tasked with identifying three of the Profile of a Graduate characteristics that their program will intentionally develop in the students that participate in their program.

Coaches and advisors will intentionally develop these characteristics through a three step process: instruction, identification, and experiences. In their individual way, coaches and advisors will provide instruction to students on what it means to exemplify the Profile of a Graduate characteristics that the program has chosen to develop. This will provide students information on what each of our Profile of a Graduate characteristics means, so there is a common understanding for everyone involved.

The second step for coaches and advisors is to identify when students within our programs demonstrate the selected Profile of a Graduate characteristics for our individual programs. During this process we want to recognize students for showing integrity, being a good communicator, showing their work ethic, having resilience, being a problem solver, being dependable, and demonstrating critical thinking skills.

Lastly, we want to create experiences for students where they can show off the characteristics that they have developed outside the arena of competition. Our coaches and advisors have been asked to create ways to connect the Profile of a Graduate characteristics to experiences that our students have throughout their time at Triton in order to create opportunities for our students, and our community, to remember when they reflect on the activities provided by Triton High School.

Through this process the Triton Activities Department will continue to pursue its mission, and develop community members that exhibit the values of Claremont, Dodge Center, and West Concord.
