There are four main styles of bbq that people tend to recognize: Memphis, North Carolina, Kansas City and Texas style. Kansas City barbecue is the original Midwest barbecue style that prefers that the meat be lathered in a smoky flavorful home-style sauce or seasoned dry rub.  Years ago, the owner Nate Hamm, went to Kansas City, Kansas with a few buddies and tasted authentic midwestern bbq. And within two weeks of returning home from his vacation he had invested in a smoker. He started smoking meat for family and friends. He would host a large cookout twice a year where family and friends would gather to enjoy his bbq cooking.

Nate was a former Physical Education teacher for over twenty years and decided to take a different path after Covid. He wanted to take the leap into entrepreneurship. He found a used food truck and fixed it up to his liking, and made sure that all the proper  paperwork  was completed for business and they opened in May. He can’t run the food truck alone; his life partner Amanda Reynick and their children (Hudson Hamm -in front, Hunter Hamm, Aubrey Akkerman, and Abigail Akkerman) assist in daily operations. It’s a family affair and they couldn’t be happier.

I’ve tasted Hammer Q and the food is amazing. I ordered the Brisket with baked beans, coleslaw, and loaded baked potato salad. I received a warm welcome and placed my order. It was obvious that customer service is a priority. The Brisket was perfectly seasoned and tender. The coleslaw and baked beans were delicious. The loaded baked potato salad was the star of the sides. Other reviews on Facebook mentioned, “We had HammerQ at a small town event. The food was amazing! So good that we ordered more to take home! Hands down the best pulled pork I've ever had! Extremely fast service!” And another review explains,”Stopped by HammerQ for supper and it was awesome!  The pulled pork sandwich was delicious and the cheesy corn and smoked mac & cheese were fabulous!  A must stop if you’re looking for great smoked meat. Great job Nate and Amanda!”

Don’t forget to stop by the Dodge Center Fire Station on Wednesday August 24, 2022 4pm-8pm to get some of this amazing Hammer Q. And be sure to follow Hammer Q on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
