The Dodge Center City Council is pleased to have City Administrator Lee Mattson return to Dodge Center.

Lee has a Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Studies. He stabilized his career in Minnesota. He served in the late 90’s in the City of Warren and later served Dodge Center as City Administrator from 2000 to 2018. Recently he resigned from the City of Waseca where he served the past few years as City Manager.

In his letter of resignation to the City of Waseca, as well as the discussion that followed, Mattson highlighted the amazing city staff that he’s had the chance to work with. “It has been a great source of joy to work closely with the city staff, all of whom work tirelessly to provide services to this city.” The Mayor of Waseca read from the letter that was submitted to him. Following the entering of the letter into the record, The Mayor began the discussion by thanking Mattson for his hard work and dedication.

Mattson said the main reason he decided to resign was that he had accepted a position as the Dodge Center City Administrator — a position he took due to his personal connection to the city. When asked why he accepted the position in Dodge Center he replied, “I’ve had positive experiences here and there are a lot of wonderful things about the community. When the opportunity came up; I was asked if there would be any interest in coming back, I said yes. I want to implement the City Council’s goals and vision for the community. The continued infrastructure repair, continued city operations, and maintain the quality staff that City of Dodge Center has.”

Mayor Bill Ketchum said he helped hire Mattson for both Dodge Center stints, and is thrilled to have done so. “He said basically, I just like the smaller towns,” Ketchum said. “He wanted to come back and the transition was much easier. We’ve been very fortunate to have three outstanding city administrators in the last 20 years.”

While Lee takes great pleasure in serving the city; he enjoys the outdoors. He enjoys the golf course within the city. Sprawling greens, trees, plants and water that offer some sense of peacefulness. Golf is an excellent way for him to get fresh air, reconnect with people and meet new people that live in Dodge Center. He and his wife Sarah own a house in Waseca, but are also renting in Dodge Center.
